We are currently in the process of developing an online solution for accountants and businesses; one that both parties can interact with easily and quickly, one that deals with all the day to day requirements and processes of the modern business.
It has six main aims (described in more detail below):

It needs to be Cost Effective, something that can be used by businesses of all sizes and still within their budget. Our pricing structure has not yet been decided, but there would be opportunities for a monthly, annual charge or even a 'pay as you use' charge.
Using the system itself will greatly decrease the cost to your business, through electronically sending documents (saves paper, postage and envelopes) to producing reports at the touch of a button (reduces accountancy costs and more paper!). As well as having everything in one place, thus reducing the amount of software and licences you need for your business.
It also needs to be User Friendly, no one likes doing their accounts, or counting up their stock to make sure there is enough to make a delivery and no one likes the huge amounts of paperwork associated with the daily running of the business. We aim to make all of these processes as easy as possible, for example, the front desk of a retail shop can have access to create invoices and receive payments, while the accounts office can simultaneously produce the daily sales report. It needs to be easy for everyone to use, from someone who has just started to use a computer, right through those who audit a companies accounts.
It needs to be 200% Secure, it may sound silly, but usually 100% secure is never enough, there are still ways to 'beat the system'.
Due to the nature of the development, the fact that it could be accessible online (either over the internet or only through the company's intranet) would itself pose a huge security risk. We would invest in the highest possible level of security, from secure access right through to advanced user authentication. Making sure that everything is as tight as possible, even the code will not be known to anyone outside of our company. The development would be tested at every stage to make sure it meets our security requirements.
It needs to be Highly Functional, do you find it annoying having to use different pieces of software for your payroll, accounts, stock management, customer management and well, the list goes on. Wouldn't you find it much easier to have everything in one place? That's exactly our aim. From something as simple as the stock management system interacting with invoices and purchase orders (reducing/increasing stock where appropriate) as well as keeping track of serial numbers, product codes etc. to an online returns system so you can keep track of credit notes and returned goods. Through to seeing who owes you what and being able to instantly send them an email or a letter. Also to incorporate project management, so you can easily assign costs and credits to a project, check budgets and so on. The list is pretty much endless, the only thing it won't be able to do is make your coffee, although you never know!
It needs to be Environmentally Friendly, although it is at the back of most people's minds and some choose to ignore it. The day to day running of businesses produces a vast amount of paperwork. From receiving invoices, purchase orders and statements in the post to producing delivery notes, office memos, annual reports, tax returns etc.
We aim to reduce paperwork greatly. Invoices, Credit Notes and Statements can be sent electronically (including through the system if your suppliers/customers use the same software). Purchase Orders can be sent to you and imported directly in to the system, or even requested through a special 'customer' login so it is entered directly - reducing admin time! This would also work as a 'supplier' login if you were to send a purchase order to your supplier (even if they don't use our system).
Finally, it needs to be Accountant Friendly, no doubt some of you are thinking how both of those words go together, but remember, if you can make the job easier for them, then it can save you time and money in the long run. Our aim is to make the accountants process simple. No more waiting for your accounts to come back before you can using the software again, errors can be fixed very quickly and your accountant can also access real-time statistics and data of your company. So there is no need to send data to your accountant and hope it gets there - they will have a special account in the system for the information they require.
Firstly I would like to thank you for reading this, and if you've read this far then I assume it has caught your interest! We are not asking for money, or for you to sign a contract. We are looking for businesses and accountants to register an interest to test the system. It doesn't matter if you're a sole trader or a Limited company, 1 employee or 100 - we would like your help!
It is still in development and so there is not much to test yet - and probably won't be for another few months. So at this stage we are looking for suggestions, ideas and interest. We are developing it for you, so we need your input.
Once it is ready to be tested, you will then be given access to the system, use it (and abuse it) how you wish. This will be for a period of 60 days - to allow you to see what happens when invoices are due or overdue, what happens at month end etc. During and after which you can submit further ideas, suggestions, comments and criticism. If required, after further development there will be another testing stage for you to try out any changes.
For the end result, and to reward your efforts, we would be offering a 25% discount on the final charges to those who have tested the system. So whatever the charges will be, you will be rewarded for your time during the development.
